Emergency Plans

There is a Crisis Management Team in place at Saint Michael the Archangel School.  Emergency plans have been developed in the event of an assault, fire, chemical spill, weather related problem or medical emergency.

The teachers have been trained so they know what to do if the need arises to shelter in place, lock down the school, or evacuate the building.

If it is necessary to shelter in place due to a chemical emergency, everyone would go to the first floor corridor.  The students have brought in non-perishable snacks and water in case of an emergency such as this.  Classrooms have been equipped with flashlights.  A radio has been purchased for the front office so that we can be in contact with the Falls Township Police Department in case of an emergency.

If it is necessary for the children to evacuate the school building, the first area we would go to is the church.  If it is necessary to do a more remote evacuation, we have permission to evacuate to Walt Disney School.

If for some reason, it is necessary to lock down the school, the teachers have been given a code word that we will use to alert them to the fact that a lock down occur.  If the school is locked down, no one is permitted to enter or leave the building.  In this case, as with sheltering in place, no parent is permitted to take a child from school.

Periodic drills are held for fire, lock down and sheltering in place.  The purpose of the drills is to prepare everyone so that they know what to do in case of an emergency.
